The Worrying World of Dissocia — April 2019
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue — a 2004 British play (something old), The Wonderful World of Dissocia, is now on-tour in the US, starting in Culver City, CA (something new).
In it, the lead role has dissociative identity disorder (DID) (something borrowed) — but also is undergoing electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). This confusing juxtaposition of pairing plurality and an inappropriate treatment has Spot& very concerned (something blue) that this is spreading misinformation and may have blowback on the DID community.
The play won numerous awards 15 years ago, but is the content dated or even harmful to plurals? Who will be brave enough to see & critique the play for Cerberus Plural?
